Updates

Aggies have left, they had a week long camp with most of our new kids. Kelly had a class with all the team, which was very fruitful. They later on went to a safari, then to the coast for adventure.
Expected visitors as of 1st July are Molly and group from South Mac church, they will be coming to have programs especially with the literacy classes. They will be teaching most classes and having activities with the students like crafts and the likes. They will be having Enlgish classes, science, Bible, Social Studies (in the social studies class, they will have a show-case of a museum.) One of the visitors is a counselor by profession and will work with Irene Akinyi with some of our students who the team feels needs counseling.
Students from Harding University will also be coming, they will help out with the SMAC group.

With the increasing number of students and target of 100 kids by end of this year, we are having students who, some have gone to school or either started out and dropped. We have like two new kids who have never stepped into a classroom.
Our beginners class comprises of students who have been to earlier stages of pre-school but dropped out and students who have never been in any form of learning institution.
Their progress is so outstanding, we are even impressed. Darlene and Mary spend their time teaching the beginners to read and write. Darren even made the classes interesting by bringing out Ipod touched to enhance the level of practical education. In the Ipod touches, there are application that teach sounds, phonics, sentence construction and the likes. Francis teaches bible classes, and recently awarded them for their good participation in class and progress since they came into the program. The beginners class comprises of 9 students inclusive of the new students.
The middle class is the largest and has 23 students. They are so competitive in their studies. Sometimes it gets out of hand but with guidance the competitive nature of the class have great results. This is the class that most uses the Library we have to full capacity. Having different age levels, they compliment each other so well.
The advance class has 17 students. This classes really targets being in the fast track program. We practice a lot of life skills with the class mainly, because from this class will come skills training students, so we emphasize on English literature, speech and writing. We put them to the test of having chapel talks, so they get their wording write and learn to speak in public places.
Issues that were pending and were addressed were religious in nature, two of our new male students have come from a background of Islam, so they were having difficulty in adjusting to our christian/bible lesson and classes.
We made special classes for them to be able to understand our setting as MITS and background.
Now they have embraced Christianity and teachings of Jesus Christ.
