Masai Mara!

the mara as it is commonly known and not intestines as in swahili might suggest but one of the most beautiful places in kenya and the world! covering an area of around 1980 square kilometres, it is a beautiful stretch of plains and a few hills. no wonder one of the seven wonders of the modern world comes from this place. it does not get better than this. upon arrival, before even getting there, one gets to see animals without even searching for them and every animal has a unique feature that one gets to learn. for example the elephant which is one of the biggest animals and one of the big five as it is known here. its trunk has more than a thousand muscles which make it to be able to lift a pin from the ground! PRETTY COOL RIGHT! what about the thompsons gazelle which wags it tail so that it does not fall asleep. or the ostrich which its feathers are used in lenses because of its magnetic features. one also gets to see the wilderbeast which is said to be the ' dumbest' animal because of its short memory. one of its friend might be eaten by a lion and it will just approach the lion after a few seconds. one unique feature is that it is one of the mammals which can postpone its delivery which means it can choose not to give birth if the environment is not condusive. one of my favorite was the "cain" bird as i called it. it will kill its siblings so that it will have enough food for itself hence the name. i cannot exhaust everything that is there or the special animals that are there because i might be forced to write a book about it or an encyclopedia. it is up to you to visit the place. you will not regret it.

Wow, Phillip! I didn't know any of that information. Maybe you should write a book. :-) I'm so glad you all are blogging! I'm looking forward to keeping up with the writings. We need to talk soon! Love, Katera
